The engine is the heart of any armored vehicle, and for KrAZ it is critically important for ensuring the mobility and survival of the crew. Maintenance begins with a comprehensive computer diagnostics of all engine systems, including checking the compression in each cylinder, the condition of the turbocharger, the high-pressure fuel system, as well as the cooling and lubrication systems.
After detecting faults, the engine is disassembled with a subsequent check of the condition of the main components - the piston group, crankshaft and camshafts, liners, gaskets. If necessary, they are completely or partially replaced. Particular attention is paid to the cylinder head, as its overheating or deformation can lead to loss of power or even destruction of the engine.
After repair, the engine is tested on a bench under load - idling stability, throttle response, fuel consumption, and exhaust smoke levels are assessed. This approach ensures reliable and uninterrupted operation of the equipment even in combat conditions.
